Notice of Changes

Dear Visitor,

Union Park: Then & Now has been a labor of love that is the result of thousands of hours of personal time, which included locating, purchasing, and scanning postcards, traveling to the location to take original photos, and researching the park through books and articles. The free information on this site has been provided to an international audience for educational and entertainment purposes for over ten years.

Sadly, it came to my attention last year that my generosity has been grossly abused, and changes to the copyright notice to this site must be made. Therefore, non-commercial use of the images on this site is no longer be allowed.

No content may be reproduced, republished, pinned, or copied and pasted in ANY format without permission. Commercial use of any content is strictly prohibited. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. If you have any questions, please email me.

My hope is that I can continue to offer the information and images on this site without adding watermarks and other security measures, but that depends on all of you.
Please play nice!

Sincerely,

Nana A. Herron

The Depot, Union Park, postcard 4

The Depot, Union Park, Dubuque, IAThis postcard is my most recent purchase. It's an image of The Depot taken from The Fishpond. To the right, you can see the stairs to The Lodge. The men in the center look like either baseball players or gardeners. There are 2 trolleys waiting at The Depot. It's a nice black and white postcard, but unfortunately it was not dated nor was it postmarked.

Here are a few links to previous posts with images of The Depot:
Depot 1, Depot 2, and Depot 3

Union Park Now: Looking Down at the Depot Area

The Depot Today, Union Park, Dubuque, IAThis photo was taken standing on the hillside behind the fishpond area. You can still see the landing area of The Depot as well as part of The Loop. That's The Promenade going off to the left there.

Union Park Now: The Fishpond 3

The Fishpond today, Union Park, Dubuque, IAThis springtime photo of the fishpond is one of my favorites. You can clearly see the outline of the pond itself. It must have been beautiful in its heyday.

Here are the links to the images that were posted previously:

Union Park Now: The Stairs to Wonder Cave 2

The Stairs to Wonder Cave today, Union Park, Dubuque, IAHere is another view of the stairs to Wonder Cave. It was taken in the spring of 2005 so there is less vegetation in the photo than in the other post which was taken during late summer of 2003.

A Remnant of the Past

A Light Post in Union Park, Dubuque, IAThis item of interest is what remains of one of Union Park's original light posts. What's really cool is that a tree has grown around it. It's one of the few remnants of a time gone by. Its location is in what used to be The Children's Playground area.
